It is the capital of the region of Biscay (or Bizkaia in the Basque language) and is part of the autonomous community of the Basque Country. The city proper has a population of over 370,000. The greater Bilbao area is home to more than a million people. The main languages are Spanish and Basque, but many people speak English.

Akademy attracts people from around the world. Travel and accommodation are important considerations for the Akademy Team and for people who are attending Akademy. The first part of July is busy in Bilbao; there is a big music festival taking place from 11-13 July. We strongly encourage you to plan your trip to Akademy 2013 and book your hotel as soon as possible.

Call for Papers
The Call for Papers is now closed.
Akademy is the KDE Community conference. If you are working on topics relevant to KDE or Qt, this is your chance to present your work and ideas at the Conference from 13-19 July in Bilbao. The days for talks are Saturday and Sunday, 13 and 14 July. The rest of the week will be unconference sessions and workshops.

Pre-Registration Event
For all attendees that arrive on Friday, 12 July or earlier that week there is a chance to pick up their badges at the early registration get-together on Friday, 12 July at the Hika Ateneo bar from 18:00 to 22:00. This way, you'll be able to avoid the Saturday morning crowd.

The Akademy 2013 Program Committee consists of:
Dario Freddi maintains several KDE components, and represents KDE as a speaker or promoter at events worldwide. Kevin Krammer has been a KDE contributor for over a decade and is primarily active in user support and developer mentoring. Lydia Pintscher is on the Board of Directors of KDE e.V. She is a member of KDE's Community Working Group and one of the admins of KDE's mentoring programs. Marta Rybczyńska can be usually found in embedded and kernel development. She helps create the KDE Commit Digest and coordinates KDE Polish translation efforts. Thiago Macieira started serious open source work with KDE back in 2001. He has been a full-time Qt developer for 7 years and is currently the Qt Core Maintainer in the Qt Project.
