Things to Do in Würzburg

Würzburg is home to some historic buildings that are worth visiting. The Würzburger Residenz was built by the prince-bishops of Würzburg to live in, after leaving the castle. Together with the Hofgarten (the park behind the palace), it is a world heritage site widely known for containing one of the largest frescoes in the world. It is home to several museums and can be visited daily. There are daily guided tours in German and English. Read More

National In Germany, Würzburg is easily reachable by train, with direct connections to many large German cities. There are direct long-distance trains from/to Frankfurt, Cologne, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Hannover, Nürnberg, Erfurt, Munich, and many other cities. For others, one interchange is usually enough. Akademy 2024 is hosted at the Julius-Maximilians-Unversity of Würzburg. The Julius-Maximilians-Unversity of Würzburg is the fourth oldest university in Germany, being founded in 1402. Historically and to this day, it has a strong reputation in areas like medicine and law, physics, chemistry, and other sciences. 14 Nobel laureates have taught and researched at the University, including Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, who was awarded the first ever Nobel Price in physics for having discovered X-Rays while working at the university.
